This year, we’d like to get everyone together in Denver as well, just for the fun of it. And where else than Falling Rock Tap House?

Falling Rock Tap House owners Chris and Steve Black hail from Texas, in fact, Falling Rock was modeled after The Ginger Man. If you happen to be in Denver during GABF, let’s meet up at Falling Rock on Thursday, October 11, any time from 1-5 PM. This is totally informal, just stop by and say hi to fellow craft beer-loving Texans. See you there!

As the Dallas craft beer scene continues to flourish, we’re very excited to see the Dallas Beer Week Committee grow. As mentioned in Draft Magazine’s latest issue, the DFW area will welcome eight new breweries this year, paperwork permitting. As you may have noticed, many existing bars and restaurants are beginning to realize that a craft beer program is becoming less of an extraneous option, and more of a necessity. Due to community education and an increase in local options, palates are changing, and more are converted to craft beer every day.

This is great news for the Dallas beer community, and for Texas. As our scene expands through social media channels and blogs, the local scenes begin to overlap and morph into a much larger Texas beer community. As a craft beer state, we are far behind states such as California, Oregon, Washington and South Carolina, due to our antiquated beer laws, but as of this year, we are finally starting to close the gap.

Due to this recent growth, we are now witnessing the beginning of a tectonic shift of sorts. The successful lawsuit filed by Jester King and Authentic Beverages last year made waves that reverberated throughout the nation, and changed Texas laws that dated back to Prohibition. Organizations such as Open The Taps and the Texas Craft Brewers Guild continue this fight, and the support from beer consumers is nothing short of astounding. New breweries in Texas are opening every month, if not every week. Craft beer bars are opening in every neighborhood, and legislators are realizing where their voters stand.

Few know more about this struggle than Tony Drewry, one of the most outspoken craft beer evangelists in the state. A former sales rep from Fort Worth’s Rahr & Sons, Tony forged his own career in independent craft beer consulting, adjusting beer lists in restaurants and bars across the state to help their business thrive by supporting local breweries. Tony also plays banjo and sings with Fish Fry Bingo, which has played in just about every beer festival in Texas this last year. He rides a bicycle with cartoonish tires.

Tony walks and talks craft beer every day, and that’s why we are so exited that Tony has agreed to serve as the Captain of the Dallas Beer Week Committee. He also has a luxurious beard, which sets him apart from other heroes in Texas history.

If you’d like to join the DBWC, and help promote DFW as one of the fastest-growing beer communities in the US, you can sign up here. If not, just join us in the countdown to November, and enjoy the events!

The first Dallas Beer Week was an incredible experience in 2011, and we expect 2012 to be even bigger. In fact, we pretty much think that Dallas Beer Week will continue to grow each year for the foreseeable future. This leads us to a dilemma – how do we manage growth in a meaningful and positive manner? Answer: We ask for help. That’s where you can come in.

New for 2012, we are establishing the Dallas Beer Week Committee. The DBWC will help us manage a number of issues during Dallas Beer Week from outreach to bars/restaurants/retail establishments, to promotion of DBW, distributing posters/flyers, and representing Dallas Beer Week at events during DBW.

Why join?

Supports your local craft beer community – the more people we help convert to craft beer, the more craft beer we can expect to see in Dallas and Fort Worth.

Saves you money – discounts, happy hours with limited free beer, cool swag and other perks await those with committee membership

Bragging Rights – we will open only be 50 slots this year so that we can ensure the best experience possible, and we expect those to fill up in the first year — members get first right to re-join next year. Be the coolest person on your block (or at least in your house).

Essentially, DBW Committee members will be the ultimate ambassadors before, during and after DBW. If you would like to have influence and input in the growth of Dallas Beer Week, this is your chance to do so. Your duties will be: encourage area establishments to participate distribute posters/flyers about DBW attend events, talk about craft beer and have a great time.

Membership has lots of perks.

Dallas Beer Week badge – only available to committee members, this will be a heavy, metal badge that you can sport around town during Dallas Beer Week (ok, we’re geeks, we know)

Free DBW T-shirt

Option to buy embroidered, commemorative 2012 DBW Committee work shirt (at cost) – available only to DBW Committee members

Reduced cost prices on DBW merchandise

Happy Hours and other events just for committee members during the year

Wrap up party for DBW committee members after DBW

How to join: Fill out THIS FORM and pay dues of $20 (covers the cost of your badge and part of the happy hours cost)

There are three teams you can join. First, there is the Marketing Team. As part of this Team, you will help publicize and promote Dallas Beer Week and the events to come. Second, there is a Outreach Team. As part of this Team, you will help approach bars, restaurants and retail establishments to encourage participation in Dallas Beer Week, help with event ideas and work with the establishments to get their events on the calendar. Third, there is the Events Team. As part of this Team, you will attend events during Dallas Beer Week as an official Ambassador during Dallas Beer Week. Clearly, there will be overlap between Teams, but we want to make sure that no one is overburdened either!

We are excited about the prospects for the 2012 Dallas Beer Week and hope that you are too! See you in November!
